EOD Firewall Issues

We know some of our users behind a firewall have been having trouble installing the EOD projects from the MyEclipse Examples repository.

A HOWTO document that shows how you can workaround the problem has been added here

A working example is worth 2 in the tutorial

Hello everyone,

My name is Greg Amerson and I'm a developer working for Genuitec.  My primary job is the Web and Ajax tooling feature lead for MyEclipse.  So most of my time is spent improving MyEclipse support for various Web and Ajax related technologies.  However, lately we've been thinking of trying to connect with our users and the broader development community at large by starting a small little side project called Examples On-Demand.   You can learn more about EoD on the site so I won't go into it too much here.  Mainly I just wanted to share with you a few opening thoughts.

What makes me excited about provided example projects to developers is the fact that with MyEclipse any example can take advantage of the MyEclipse Server Sandbox, which means that out of the box you can have a appserver and database pre-configured for any example.  So there is no time spent configuring the example to work in your appserver/database environment.

Right now we have 11 EoD projects available.  I hope we can double that number in a very short time.  You may be thinking that isn't alot but we are just getting started with this service and many of those projects are 3-tier, full end-to-end applications that demonstrate multiple technologies/frameworks, e.g. Ajax, Spring, JPA running on local derby db all in one example.

I'll be writing again soon to talk about some of my favorite EoD projects.  Until then, happy coding!

Learning from Examples - The Significance

Hello,

My name is Vatsan, and I'm a member of the MyEclipse development team.
Most developers are often forced to question the need to learn from examples when there are tools that do almost anything and everything available.

One should not forget the fact that survival in any industry depends on continuous learning on their part as well as on the part of people who learn from them.
For me, this is particularly vexing in the field of Software because innovation happens almost daily. The second part of the problem is also the scope of information needed to get something done. 10 years back, one needed to know one UI programming language, one Data storage technology and one data processing language and you were done.
Today, we need to know multiple APIs, packages, libraries, servers just to get one application running. So, the volume of knowledge required has also increased exponentially, in addition to the duration for which that knowledge holds stable. In such a scenario learning different technologies without much of a configuration and installation in a limited timeframe become vital.

The MyEclipse Examples On-Demand does just that.

Currently I'm working on a couple of example projects and they should be available in the above mentioned link soon.

How much easier can you start with developing? Keep watching this space.

Vatsan,
MyEclipse Team

Welcome!

Welcome to the Examples On-Demand blog. The goal of this site is to provide developers a rapid examples-based learning experience for familiarization with programming technologies of your interest through observation of example applications that run on the MyEclipse 6 Server Sandbox with zero configuration.

The initial examples development team is made up of MyEclipse IDE develpoment and support team members. They will use this facility to communicate general status information about example applications as well as their personal adventures in developing and supporting example application and the Example On-Demand user community. We would appreciate your assistance in helping to spread the word about Examples On-Demand as well as your personal feedback and suggestions for the future direction for this site. If you are interested in particpating as an example developer please drop us a note at examples at genuitec dot com.
